CROSSFIT TRAINING
MMA QUICKSTART PROGRAM - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Developed in 1995, by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai, the CrossFit Training Program is a comprehensive, high-intensity strength and conditioning system that utilizes aspects of gymnastics, powerlifting, kettleball training, plyometrics, rowing, sprinting, weightlifting, and more. Obviously such a program could have tremendous impact when it comes to sport specific training.
In CrossFit Training, the thought is that a truly fit individual must reach an advanced proficiency level in ten basic categories, which include stamina, strength, flexibility, power, agility, balance, speed, coordination, accuracy, and cardiovascular endurance. The CrossFit Training program suggests that by provoking specific neurological and hormonal adaptations across metabolic pathways, an athlete’s fitness level can be increased in most areas.
Training consists of a mixture running, bodyweight, rowing, pulling, climbing, and lifting exercises. To add a sporting element to the process, scoring and ranking systems are added to each exercise in an effort to bring an added dimension to training.
There are more than 2,000 CrossFit certified gyms nationwide and each year the CrossFit games are held to bring the top competitors together in a supreme test of athletic fitness. For a closer look at some of the most common and intense, individual CrossFit exercises, check out the following videos:
